Iris

How it works

One thread, and everything that hangs off it.

Iris is built around a single continuing conversation with you. Memory, reasoning, actions, background work and voice all share it, so nothing has to be explained twice.

It remembers on purpose.

As you talk, Iris notes the things that will matter later: people and how you know them, dates, commitments, preferences, the projects you’re carrying. When one becomes relevant it brings it back, and shows you that it did, so you always know why it said what it said.

  • Every note is visible in your memory, with where it came from.
  • Correct anything, or forget it in one tap.
  • Ask it to remember something on purpose, and it will.

Sam’s birthday is on the 14th. She’s been getting really into bouldering.

Noted. Do you want a nudge the week before, so there’s time to plan something?

It reasons before it answers.

You don’t have to phrase things perfectly. Iris works out what you’re really asking, checks it against your calendar, your notes and what it knows about you, then gives a straight answer with its reasons.

It knows when to slow down. A quick question gets a quick answer; a decision with real consequences gets proper attention. When something is unclear it asks, often with a few options to pick from, instead of guessing.

Is Edinburgh worth it next weekend?

  • Calendar. Saturday and Sunday are clear.
  • Calendar. Kepler review, Monday at 09:30.
  • Memory. You’d rather travel somewhere you can walk.

Yes, with one change. A late Sunday train makes Monday’s review too tight.

Go Friday evening and come back Sunday morning. The old town is walkable end to end, so you won’t need a car.

It does the follow-up, with your say-so.

Thinking is only half the job. Iris connects to the tools you already use and does the legwork. You connect each one yourself and can disconnect it at any time.

  • GmailFinds the thread you mean, summarises it and drafts the reply.
  • Google CalendarChecks when you’re free, proposes times and moves events.
  • Google DriveFinds the file and pulls out the part you need.
  • The webResearches properly and shows the sources it read.
  • RemindersNudges you before something matters, not after.

I’ve drafted the note to Sam and lined up the move. Nothing goes out until you say so.

Moving our 3pm

Hi Sam, could we push today’s 3pm to Friday at 11? Something’s come up that I need to be at. Same agenda, and I’ll bring the numbers. Thanks.

The rule: anything that leaves your hands, like a sent email or an invite other people will see, is shown to you first and waits for your go-ahead.

It keeps working after you leave.

Goals. Give Iris an outcome rather than a task list and it pursues it in the background, checking back in only when it needs a decision from you.

Routines. Give it a cadence instead and it runs on its own without being asked.

  1. Weekdays 07:30Morning brief: today’s calendar, anything that changed overnight, one thing to decide.
  2. Fridays 16:00Week in review: what got done, what slipped, what to carry into Monday.
  3. 1st of the monthSubscriptions check: renewals coming up and anything you stopped using.

GoalRunning in the background

Watch return flights to Lisbon for the May bank holiday. Tell me if one drops under £180.

  1. Thu 23:00Checked 4 airlines. Lowest return £214.
  2. Fri 03:00No change worth mentioning.
  3. Fri 06:00Lowest return now £209.
  4. Fri 07:00£176 with the 08:05 from Gatwick, back Monday evening.

It talks, and it listens.

Walking, driving, or thinking with your hands full, have the conversation out loud. It’s the same Iris with the same memory, and everything said lands in the same thread as text.

  • No button to hold down.
  • Talk over it and it stops to listen.
  • Live captions, so you can glance back at what was said.

Keep an eye on something for me and tell me when it changes.

I need a little context first.
